- 01Open slip-on shapes forgive a few millimetres. Closed ones forgive less.
- 02There are reliable ways to learn somebody's size without asking them.
- 03If you genuinely cannot find out, do not guess, this is not a returnable category.
Start with the awkward part, because it changes the advice: our returns cover a manufacturing defect, damage on arrival or a wrong item, and not a size that turned out wrong. There is no exchange. Most gift guides can wave that away and this one cannot. What follows is how to gift footwear anyway, how to find the size without asking, which shape forgives most, and the point at which you should buy something else instead.
Why the shape you pick changes the risk
A flip flop or a slide has an open top and no fixed length around the foot, so a few millimetres either way reads as relaxed rather than wrong. That is real forgiveness, and it is why open shapes are the sensible gift.
A clog is closed over the toes and holds the foot, which is exactly what makes it good for a shift and exactly what makes it a worse guess. If you are buying for somebody whose size you are inferring, buy the open shape.

How to find the size without asking
Look at a pair they already own. The size is printed inside the shoe or on the sole, and if it is a UK or IND number it converts straight across to the EU number in our size guide.
Photograph the label rather than trying to remember it. UK 8, EU 42 and US 9 are the same foot, and it is easy to carry the wrong one of those three home in your head.
If you can ask without ruining the surprise, ask. A question about shoe size is far less memorable than people fear, and it costs nothing compared with a pair that never gets worn.
Picking the style for the person
For somebody on their feet all day, ward staff, a teacher, anyone behind a counter, a clog is what the job wants, so consider gifting it only if you actually know the size. Otherwise an open pair, and they can wear it for the commute and the evening.
For a gym-goer, a slide. It is the shape that gets kept in a bag and used, and it is the most forgiving on fit of anything we make.
For a general, please-most-people gift, a flip flop. It suits Indian weather for most of the year, and there is nothing to learn about wearing it.
Any of the 5 styles is close to the same price and shares the same footbed and foam, so the choice is genuinely about the person rather than about how much you want to spend.
When to gift something else
If you cannot find the size and cannot ask, buy something that does not have a size. That is not us talking ourselves out of an order for effect, a pair in the wrong size is an unusable gift and a return we will not accept, and both of those are worse outcomes than a different present.
One more thing worth passing on with the gift: the foam is heat-sensitive, so a pair should not be dried in the sun or left in a car. Heat damage is not covered, and it is the one way a new pair gets ruined in its first month.
Where this guide stops
We do not sell gift cards, so there is no size-proof version of this product to fall back on. If that is what the situation needs, it is a genuine gap and we would rather point at it than pretend an open shape solves every case.
CloudFoam™ is heat-sensitive, keep every pair out of direct sunlight and off hot surfaces, and store it in the shade. Sun or heat damage isn't covered by returns.
